Derek Van Tassell
Derek is the managing partner at the firm. He was born in Germany and raised near Edmonton, AB. Derek completed his Bachelor of Arts in 1996 from the University of Alberta and his Bachelor of Laws at the University of New Brunswick in 1999. He has practiced in Grande Prairie since. His practice is varied and includes: Real Estate; Civil Litigation; Family; and Corporate/Commercial. He has appeared before the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal. Derek is also a member of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association.
He has been a member of a number of committees for the Law Society of Alberta (including the Pro Bono, Professional Responsibility and Continuing Competence Committees). More recently, he was appointed as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta in June of 2012.
In Grande Prairie, Derek has been a board member for the Grande Prairie Art Gallery; Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter; Grande Prairie Soccer Association and currently sits on the board for the United Way and the Legal Aid Regional Committee. He was also instrumental in setting up the Grande Prairie Legal Guidance (Pro Bono) Clinic in town.
Derek enjoys traveling, sports and spending time with his family.
